From Nothing - Eris Quartet with Gemma McGregor

Comtemporary Classicalist

Whilst pursuing a dual career as musician and composer, Gemma has received many commissions, including pieces performed at the Saint Magnus Festivals of 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2014.

Gemma attended the 2010 Saint Magnus Composers Course and the resulting quintet was performed by the Hebrides Ensemble. Gemma’s work has been performed by Mr McFall’s Chamber, the Red Note Ensemble, Dunedin Consort, Saint Magnus Cathedral Choir, Aberdeen University Chamber Choir and the Erskine String Quartet.

Watercolour Studios released a CD of Gemma’s chamber music recorded by The Eris Ensemble in 2011. Gemma has written for a diverse range of performances including music theatre, political art, contemporary dance, installations, traditional music and film. Upcoming performances include two pieces for the 2015 Sound Festival: a collaboration with sculptor Craig Ellis on a sculpture/electronic music installation for exhibition at Grays School of Art and a production of her chamber opera, The Locked Door to be performed on 29th and 30th October.

Gemma is currently working on her second opera for performance in 2016.
